This privacy policy applies to the Altermise app for mobile devices and related services operated by Jac Davies. Last updated: 23 August 2026.

Data Controller

What information we collect

We collect the following personal data when you register and use the app:

• Email address
• Display name (chosen by you)
• Usage data — recipes cooked, pantry items, saved recipes, ratings, dietary preferences
• Device type, operating system, and IP address (collected automatically)

We do not collect your precise location, phone number, or payment card details. Payment is handled entirely by Apple's in-app purchase system.

Why we process your data

• Contract performance: to provide the app and its features
• Legitimate interests: to improve the app, prevent fraud, and maintain security
• Consent: where you have opted in to specific features

Third-party services

The app uses the following third-party services that process your data on our behalf:

• Supabase — stores your account data, pantry items, saved recipes, and usage history. Privacy policy: supabase.com/privacy
• Anthropic — processes queries submitted to AI features including mood-based recipe search and drink pairing recommendations. Ingredient text submitted to these features is transferred to Anthropic's servers outside the UK. Privacy policy: anthropic.com/privacy
• Apple — handles in-app subscription payments. Privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy
• Sentry — receives crash reports and error data to help us fix bugs. Privacy policy: sentry.io/privacy
• PostHog — receives anonymised usage events to help us understand how the app is used. Data hosted in the EU. Privacy policy: posthog.com/privacy

We enter into Data Processing Agreements with these providers as required under UK GDPR. Data may be transferred outside the UK using Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep your data

• Account and usage data: retained for the duration of your account plus 12 months
• Automatically collected data: up to 24 months
• Data required by law: as long as legally required

You can request deletion of your data at any time through the app's account deletion feature or by contacting support@altermise.com.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and port your personal data. You have the right to object to processing and to withdraw consent at any time. You can lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any right, contact support@altermise.com. We will respond within one month.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact support@altermise.com and we will delete it immediately.

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data. In the event of a breach we will notify the ICO within 72 hours and affected users without undue delay.

AI features

The app uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power mood-based recipe search and drink pairing recommendations. Ingredient text and meal descriptions you submit to these features are processed by Anthropic. We do not use your data to train AI models.

Changes to this policy

We will notify you of material changes by posting an updated policy with a new effective date.
